Tay is a high-rolling gambler who has fallen on some bad luck and lost a fortune. Apart from recent bad decisions gambling, Tay is serious, intelligent, and ambitious. It is important to keep up appearances, so Tay still dresses well (tasteful evening gown or suit), but doesnât have any expensive watches or jewelry since this has been gambled away.
Itâs 1968 and you are Tay Mirez - a high-rolling gambler who has fallen on some bad luck and is hoping to reverse your fortune tonight at the Las Vegas casino La Catedral. At least thatâs what you want people to thinkâŚÂ
You are actually Sol Ramon - an undercover FBI agent. Youâve been playing the part of a wealthy person with a gambling problem for the past six months now while working to uncover a Soviet spy ring that operates out of Las Vegas casinos. In order to prevent your cover from being blown, your only point of contact in the FBI is Director Gio Givaldi. All the intelligence you gather goes to him.Â
But recently, all of your missions have been failing. Every time you confirm that someone is a spy, that person mysteriously disappears. Next thing you know, you hear that the confirmed spy has made their way back to the Soviet Union safe and sound. Someone must be tipping off the spies that you are onto them. You told Givaldi that you think your mission may have been compromised, but he laughed it off and said you were paranoid from being undercover for too long. Youâre good at reading people, and you could tell that Givaldi was nervous beneath his dismissive demeanor. But you donât think he was worried about the mission being compromised⌠No, what you saw in his eyes looked more like guilt. Your gut tells you that Givaldi is the one tipping off the Soviets every time you gather intel on them, but you have no concrete evidence.
Givaldi is your superior and youâre afraid to bring accusations against him. He could easily pin the whole mess back on you (after all â you are the one known to have had contact with each Soviet spy that escaped). If itâs between you and Givaldi, youâre pretty sure the FBI will believe him. For now, you just have to keep your head down and do your job.Â
Youâre going to La Catedral tonight to gamble and see what information you can gather. You know La Catedral is often full of tourists, wealthy businessmen, and spies. Youâve had your eye on one person in particular who has been frequenting the casino for the past several nights - Rye Sanderson. While you canât be certain, you are pretty sure that Rye Sanderson is actually The Raven - a notorious assassin whose identity has never been confirmed.Â
While youâre at the casino chatting with some of the other patrons, Lex Knightley walks in. You know that Knightley is an FBI investigator and personal friend of Givaldi, but Knightley doesnât know who you are. Your identity as an undercover agent has been kept a secret from everyone. You wonder why someone from the FBI would be at the casino . . . Â youâre hoping that nothing happens to blow your cover. Just then, Knightley starts trying to get everyoneâs attention to make an announcement . . .Â
Youâre shocked to learn that Givaldi is dead. What does this mean for you? Surely someone else at the FBI will take over as your main point of contact and when they start looking into your cases, theyâll probably notice the same things you did⌠Now that Givaldi is dead, youâre more concerned than ever that youâll be accused of sabotage. People might even want to pin the murder on you. You need to find out who killed Givaldi before the FBI gets suspicious or your cover is blown. You also need to make sure those missiles arenât launched. The last thing you want is for the Cold War to escalate and the Soviet Union to win ground. You have way more important things on your mind then money, but youâll have to continue playing the part of a gambler trying to win back a fortune. Maybe you can use your quest for money as a ruse to gather informationâŚÂ
Go talk to Hollis Johnson - the casino manager - and see if you can learn anything about Rye Sanderson. Pretend that you are just curious and that the main thing you care about is getting money.Â
